The scent tips her off first; it's heavy and cloying and one she'd never wear.
She closes her eyes tightly against the surge of pain, but it's too familiar. The outrage she feels is dim and hollow and even while she's screaming, "How could you, Eddie? In our bed?" there's a little voice inside that says, 'It won't be the first time. Or the last.'
He lies, of course, but it's just a different tune with the same refrain. She trusts the evidence not him - it's how she's been trained.
That night, she packs his bags and changes the record.
