A Day Off

It wasn't often that Gil Grissom, Catherine Willows, Sara Sidle, Nick Stokes, and Warrick Brown could actually 'hang out' together. Not since their job took them all over Las Vegas anyway. But it was a very slow night so Grissom said they could have it off. Now they were all over at Catherine's house, because she had to be home since her daughter was home.

"Want something to drink?" Catherine offers

"Beer." Everyone says at once.

"I'll help you." Sara says walking off to the kitchen with Catherine.

"You know, sometimes those guys are quite weird." Sara remarks.

Catherine glances over at the younger girl "You realize you date one of those 'weird guys' don't you?" she says with a smile.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, but seriously...haven't you ever noticed it? I mean you've saved Grissom's life, but he's never thanked you. We're women in the field, but sometimes they treat us like these little porcelain dolls that can't handle anything."

"Sara, someday you'll realize that you have to earn your place in a job. This is a male-dominated work force now, especially when it comes to civil servant jobs. Women have to earn respect from people. I'm not saying I like it, I'm just saying how it is."

Sara nods and then helps Catherine carry out the beers to the room of men.

"Will you guys quiet down please." Catherine says "Lindsay's upstairs sleeping and I hope to keep it that way."

"So Gris, why the sudden night off?" Nick asks their supervisor

"Well, it really was a slow night, but I told the sheriff that we needed it off." Grissom responds.

Everyone sends shocked looks at him.

Grissom continues "I've seen the way you've all been reacting lately. You're becoming burned out and I don't need a bunch of CSI's that are overworked and underpaid. You've been working huge amounts of over time and catching record amounts of criminals. I just thought we could use some time off."

There was silence for a few minutes as they all drank their beers.

"Remember that time you were almost killed, Grissom?" Nick asks their supervisor

"Yeah, it took me to save you." Catherine says smiling.

"Yeah I know I'll never live that one down. But I've done plenty for you guys you know."

"Yeah we know." Sara says "You've taped me up, you've pinned me against the wall." she continues with a gleam in her eyes.

"Damn, you guys have all the fun." Warrick complains

Grissom massages Sara's hand and whispers something in her ear.

"Hey no secrets." Nick says like a little kid.

"Grow up." Catherine says "Maybe you need a girlfriend of your own...oh wait strippers are more your style."

"Hey not fair. That was only once, and you see what happened anyway."

"Yeah she ended up dead, and you almost lost your job, yet again I saved that for you too." Catherine says

"Well you're just the modern day hero aren't you?" Nick says sarcastically

There was laughter from them all.

Grissom sighs and says "We've had many good times together that's for sure. We've made many relationships that will last forever." He looks at his girlfriend and places a kiss on her forehead. "I guess it's time to head home. We have a fun filled day lined up for tomorrow."

Everyone gets up and Catherine walks them to the door "Thanks for coming over guys. We'll see ya tomorrow."

The group leaves and Catherine is left there thinking about all the times she and her co-workers have been there for each other. She hoped it would be a long time to come.
